Our Apés

The History

Our Piaggio Apé is the three-wheeled star of the show. Corradino D’Ascanio invented the Apé in 1947 to address Italy’s post-war economic crisis and the need for affordable transportation. The name refers to the work ethic of this vehicle – "apé" (pronounced AH-pay) in Italian means "bee." In Italy’s small southern villages, its compact size allows it to navigate narrow city streets and is often seen on the roadside as an impromptu market stall.
